It's no secret! The wellkept safety razor is the best safety razor on the market, and we've got it right here at Clean Beauty House! Over 2 billion plastic razors and cartridges are disposed in the US alone. This plastic-free razor is the perfect solution. There are a few key things to keep in mind when using your new razor:
1) Take your time
Shaving is always best done when you take your time. Rushing can lead to cuts and nicks using a regular or safety razor. The best way to use your safety razor is to take a steamy shower, exfoliate with the Wildcraft Scrub by adding a little a water, and massage your skin with the Intimacy oil. Once you've applied the oil, your skin is soft and ready for a shave. Take your time. Let the shaving experience be enjoyable instead of rushing through it before a night out.
2) UPLEVEL STEAM & EXFOLIATION
The best shave happens when your skin is warm and exfoliated. A great time to shave is after your shower where you have exfoliated. Exfoliation will unclog your pores and soften the skin. It will slough off dead skin. We highly recommend it!
3) SHAVE WITH OIL
We love using wellkept Shave Oil as it does double duty to moisturizer the skin. Just make sure to wash your hands before you pick up your razor so it doesn't slip!
4) BE GENTLE
Well kept safety razors are made of solid brass and have a beautiful weight to them. This means that all you have to do is gently glide the razor over your skin and let its weight apply the pressure for you. You’ll find out what works best for you in terms of how you hold the razor, but a good rule of thumb is to position the razor at a 30 degree angle.
5) SHAVE IN THE DIRECTION OF YOUR HAIR GROWTH
It's much less harsh on the skin to shave in the direction of your hair rather than against it. Shaving against your hair growth can cause razor burn and irritate the skin, especially around sensitive areas. If you don't get a good shave this way, repeat another one with the grain or against the grain. Doing the second shave against the grain will be much less irritating to your follicles.
HERE ARE SOME OTHER TIPS FROM FOUNDER OF WELLKEPT
Legs – I go against the grain right off the bat. The skin on my legs isn’t particularly sensitive and I find I can get a really close shave with just one pass.
Armpits – I go with the grain on my first pass, then pull skin taught and do a second pass against the grain applying ZERO pressure.
Bikini area – First pass with the grain and a second pass going across the grain rather than against it.
6) KEEP YOUR RAZOR CLEAN
Rinse out your razor head. Loosen the top a bit and run it under water to clean out any stuck hair, skin or oil.
7) KEEP YOUR BLADE SHARP
Keeping your razor blade sharp is INTEGRAL to avoiding razor burn and ingrown hairs. One of the best parts of using a safety razor is that the cost of blades is so negligible you really have no excuse! When purchased in bulk, the blades can cost as little as $0.10!
