What can you do to support your immune system during the Covid pandemic?
The guidelines are in - social distancing and hand washing are our top priorities. While we all stay home to help #flattenthecurve, what can we do to support our immunity and enhance our wellbeing? We rounded our top 5 tips on strengthening the immune system now and post-coronavirus (yes, we will get through this!)
Manage stress to enhance the immune system
Stress produces a hormone called cortisol. Too much cortisol lowers your body's lymphocytes (white blood cells) which are your body's army of immune cells that ward of viruses and bacteria (1). So what can you do to reduce stress?
Engage in stress reducing activities like meditation, yin yoga, or walking in nature. Take an adaptogen tincture like Strest to help your adrenals cope with stress. Take a bath with bath salts or with a bathbomb infused with CBD. Since caffeine can trigger the stress response, switch to a coffee substitute that's made with adaptogens and supports the health of your adrenals. We're brewing the RASA Ayurvedic coffee substitute every afternoon for a pick me up. It tastes great and doesn't give you any jitters!
Vitamin C for Immunity
Pick up a high quality vitamin C and take 2000mg or more per day. We love a powder format which you can easily double up on. Dissolve it in water, juice or add it to your smoothies.
Honey for Immunity
Honey is loaded with vitamins and minerals and has been known to aid the immune system. Skip sugar and add this Bee Powered Honey that's made with immune boosting ingredients from the hive like royal jelly, propolis and pollen.
Vitamin D and Immunity
In Canada, many of us don't get exposed to enough sunlight to make optimal amounts of vitamin D. Get your levels checked and make sure they are in the high end of normal.
Zinc and Influenza
Zinc is a mineral that's known to boost your immunity especially during the cold and flu season. All you need is 10mg/day but in a situation like this you can take upto 30mg/day.
To go deeper, take our Nourishing Your Immunity class, hosted by our founder and homeopath, Priya Ferrie. In this 35 minute audio, you will learn what you can do arm your immune system, you'll receive a handout with dosing guideline for the above products, and a 10 minute guided meditation to help you feel calm and grounded.
Finally, what should you be doing for your skin right now? Make sure you're hydrated. Drink lots of water and make herbal teas. If you're home bound like most of us, take this time to give yourself an at-home facial, layer up your moisturizer with serums made with lots of antioxidant rich oils, like Graydon's Superfood Serum. Nap when you need it. Take baths. Give yourself a pedicure. Take good care of your body and your mind and your skin will reap the benefits!
